First-time Home Buyer Application

HGTV is looking for fun, high-energy people in Denver and Atlanta who are buying their first place! Singles, couples and families are all invited to apply.

My First Place is returning for a third season that will again focus on the trials and tribulations of looking for, bidding on, and buying your first place – whether it’s a single family, townhouse or condo. We’re looking for fun and interesting people who aren’t afraid to share their personal and financial struggles during the home-buying process.

We’ll follow you for approximately 6 shoot days over a 3-month period during some of the more stressful days of your life, so if this sounds like fun, please apply! The reward is an entire room makeover; giving you a comfy place to relax from the moment you first take possession of your home. You’ll also receive a DVD copy of your episode giving you a lasting memory of the process.

My First Place airs at 10:30 PM EST (8:30 Mountain Time) on Sunday and Tuesday nights.

My First Place Application Rules

1. Our format follows our candidates out of their rental situation. This means we must be able to tape you living in your rental home during these time periods. PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT travel more than two hours (by car!) outside of the selected cities. Please be sure these locations and time ranges work for you!

2. We will also need a location release signed by your landlord, giving us permission to tape inside your home. Please ask your landlord about it now – we regret to say that some landlords are not willing to sign this. If you have problems, please contact us. Sometimes landlords only need to be reassured that we are not out to make them look bad. We will do whatever we can to help get this signed. Rest assured, if your landlord will still not allow taping, we will come up with an alternative!

4. The IRS requires that we file a 1099MISC for you on re-sellable gifts totaling $600 and over. This includes lamps, furniture, art, etc. but not materials or services. We require a signature on this form before taping, but it is your responsibility to file it with the rest of your taxes for 2006. We will send you a copy in January of 2007.
